MOSCOW MARAUDER #883C

Picture
Everyone feels drawn toward something. Some things that people are drawn to have to do with the way that they are brought up. Take roller skating for example, it has been a part of Moscow Marauder's life since she was a little girl. On Friday nights the family would go for open skate followed by a Saturday morning of lessons. In elementary and middle school Moscow Marauder would meet her friends at the rink every Friday night.

Then there are things that people are drawn to which had absolutely no part in their upbringing. For example motorcycles, monsters and Moscow. The only person the Moscow Marauder had contact with growing up that had a motorcycle was her father's best friend, yet that love for the rumble of a Harley Davidson has been there her entire life. That yearning finally quenched two years ago when she bought her first Harley, a Sportster 883 Custom. Now on sunny days and clear nights Moscow Marauder may be found out causing trouble with her fellow riders.

Moscow Marauder wasn't allowed to watch scary movies as a child and now she is a part of the things nightmares are made of. She has been volunteering with the Hudson Jaycees at the Hudson Haunted House since she was 16 years old. Moscow Marauder can be found in the ticket booth, walking through the patrons waiting to go in, or quite possibly inside the house waiting to scare the "yell" out of you.

Russia or Moscow also had nothing to do with Moscow Marauder's upbringing, aside from religious aspect of the city. She has never been to Moscow and the closest she's been to Russia is Ukraine. The history and culture of the city are the allure that makes her want to visit.

Roller skating is now more than a hobby. It's more than Friday night open skate and a social gathering. In 2005 Moscow Marauder suffered her first Lupus flare, causing her to have to give up most of her activities. The Lupus, or wolf as she calls it, attacked the nerves in her legs making it difficult at times to walk. Roller derby is a way to fight that wolf, to show it that Moscow Marauder will NOT let it take over her life. She's taking to the track and making the other team see red.

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference." - Reinhold Niebuhr
